World AMR Awareness Week (WAAW), formerly known as World AMR Awareness Week, is an annual global campaign aimed at improving awareness and understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR), celebrated every year from 18th to 24th November. WAAW unites the world in action against one of the most urgent health challenges of our time, the rise of drug-resistant infections.
This year, under the theme “Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future,” the campaign emphasizes the importance of taking action today to preserve the effectiveness of antimicrobials and safeguard the health of future generations, a principle that is very important to One Health Society’s mission.
Antimicrobial Resistance affects everyone from patients and farmers to health workers, policymakers, and the environment itself. Misuse and overuse of antibiotics in humans, animals, and agriculture accelerate the spread of resistant microorganisms, making infections harder and sometimes impossible to treat.
At the One Health Society, we believe that collaborative action across sectors is key to preventing AMR. Our collective efforts can help preserve the effectiveness of antimicrobials for generations to come.
This year, the United Republic of Tanzania proudly hosts the 7th Africa Continental World AMR Awareness Week Campaign in Dar es Salaam, co-hosted by the Regional Quadripartite (FAO, UNEP, WHO, WOAH) and the African Union Agencies (Africa CDC & AU-IBAR).
The event brings together global health experts, researchers, youth leaders, animal and environmental health professionals, civil society, and policymakers to exchange knowledge, strategies, and innovative solutions to tackle AMR through the One Health approach.
Throughout the week, diverse activities will take place both physically and virtually, including: Scientific Conference & Abstract Presentations; Exhibitions & Networking Opportunities, and Africa Continental Marathon
One Health Society is honored to be one of the organizing members of the National team. We look forward to participating, showcasing our project, and engaging with attendees from different countries. We invite all participants to connect with us during the event, share knowledge, and engage in meaningful discussions.
