The launch of the AMR Parliamentary Alliance is a groundbreaking initiative that bridges the gap between policymakers and technical experts in the fight against antimicrobial resistance (AMR). This alliance plays a pivotal role in shaping, developing, and implementing AMR advocacy efforts across the country. I am pleased to see AMR advocacy advancing to new heights, particularly because parliamentarians hold significant influence within communities and are deeply trusted by their members. Communities tend to place a great deal of faith in their elected politicians, making this platform an essential link between community members, policymakers, and technical experts. Through this collaboration, we can ensure that AMR initiatives are both scientifically sound and resonate with the public, thereby strengthening our collective response to this critical issue.

The Tanzania Parliamentarians Alliance for AMR serves as an important forum in Tanzania, where Members of Parliament represent diverse regions and make decisions on various issues affecting our welfare. The strength of these issues is enhanced when they are presented with solid evidence, leading to more effective implementation. In terms of Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), this forum is particularly valuable, as raising awareness is a strategic objective of our National Action Plan for AMR 2023-2028. Through the One Health Society, Alliance members will receive ongoing training to ensure they are knowledgeable and competent in AMR matters. This will enable them to effectively engage with all MPs across the country and, consequently, reach the constituents they represent, meaning every Tanzanian will benefit, as each citizen has a representative in Parliament.
